12.31.2009 - New Year's Eve

Hello world...

So this past week, in normal fashion, I wanted to create my list of resolutions for the new year; and as usual, I wrote the same things I always do...

1) Get in Shape
2) Learn Korean
3) Learn Spanish
4) Save "X" Amount of Dollars
5) Visit "Such-and Such" Place

I stared at my list and started thinking to myself, "What's the plan? How do I follow through and make this year different?" Several minutes had gone by and after I had just about resigned myself to the fact that I didn't have a new plan, a commercial caught my eye.

Low and behold, like a sign from the heavens, an American Express commercial popped up on the boob tube and I could not take my eyes off of it. The entire commercial was made of snapshots taken of inanimate objects that took on the form of a facial expression that seemed to naturally have occured. A purse, a faucet, a front of a plane, a furniture arrangement, a bicycle and curb... the list goes on.

Needless to say, I was enamoured with the commercial and the light went off. (I should also note that I had just finished watching "Julie & Julia" and was a tad bit intrigued by the whole blog about 527 recipes in 365 days.)

So... here it is. My one and only resolution, err...project. All other resolutions have been 86'd and my newborn baby, Project 365 Faces has been born!

Simple idea really. I want to take 365 snapshots of 365 "naturally occurring faces" found in the world around me. No manipulations, and definately no live faces (animals, humans, aliens, whatever).

When I was younger, I truly believed in the idea that if you just looked hard enough, one could find the good in anything. I sincerely think that this project will prove that happiness and beauty are truly surrounding us from the miniscule to the magnificent.

I hope you (aka. someone out there) finds a bit of humor, happiness, and perhaps a modicum of inspiration throughout the development of this project.

First picture to post tomorrow (01.01.10)... stay tuned.

Happy New Year and a toast to 2010 and all it has to offer.

My inspiration... American Express

01.02.2010 - A Lamp

The top of a Candle Lamp. I stared at it and stared at it, and finally the face emerged....
